This morning I deleted a message, and since the sender didn't provide me with an email address I'm unable to respond privately, so I'm doing it here. The post was about another author's delayed book.
First, and I write this with my tongue drilled firmly in my cheek. My blog should be all about ME, not some other writer.
That said, I do discuss books I'm reading, and when I find a wonderful reading experience, I want to pass the word. I try to warn you away from terrible movies, I'll discuss politics as long as the discussion remains civil.
I will talk about writing techniques, ways to get past problem areas, plotting, characterization, etc. What I will not discuss are the work habits of other writers. I will tell you all about my work habits because (remember) this blog is about me.
It's as if you've come over to my house and we're talking about writing, my worries over insurance, my horse, etc. You are all welcome at my home, but you fall into the category of casual friends, and as such I will not discuss personal issues or my close friends.
My advice to this person who queried me -- There are many wonderful books being published. Read them, and put aside fretting about delayed series. For example, Connie Willis has a wonderful new novel coming out in February 2010. I had the good fortune to read an ARC of BLACKOUT, and it's terrific. Don't miss BITTER SEEDS by Ian Tregillis coming out April 13th, 2010. This book is brilliant. If you're looking for a series might I recommend THE LONG PRICE QUARTET by Daniel Abraham. Anything by Walter Jon Williams though I'm especially partial to THE PRAXIS BOOKS.
And finally since this blog is all about me -- be sure to pick up THE EDGE OF RUIN out from Tor books on April 13th 2010.

Also your post on Sherlock Holmes was spot on. Great actors, great industrial revolution visuals, but it just didn't work.
Thanks for your response, and have a happy new year!

But thank you for the apology, accepted. Now pull up a chair have some salsa and we'll talk about movies and writing and horses and music.

I'm just now reading the third book in Daniel's series, after not having been able to get to it this summer. A great read.
