Mankinds Earliest Structure

You have to check out this article about a ancient temple complex in Turkey.  The site is dated to 11,500 B.C. which sort of drives a spike through the idiotic fundamentalist notion that the world is 6000 years old.  (As if dinosaurs didn't do that already, but hey, nobody said these people were rigorous thinkers.)

I'm coming up on the one year anniversary of my amazing trip to Turkey and now I want to go back _right now_.  I would love to tour this site.  The haunting emotions I felt at Hattusa (the Hittite capital) were overwhelming.  I can't imagine what this must feel like.

I also made a Turkish eggplant dish for dinner last night, and the flavors of plain yogurt, garlic and tomato took me back to that amazing country.

Fascinating, as Spock would say
written by Tengland, March 01, 2010
It is fascinating, but still one needs to be cautious until more work can be done. After all, it's mostly one man pushing his theories; but that's how many world-changing ideas developed. He does have a good point, though -- why is it so had to imagine religion coming before settlements? Goat-herders and hunters would be searching for explanations for natural events the same as anyone else.

I think even our distant ancestors -- the Lucys, if you will, were probably terrified when lighting struck a nearby tree and tried to find an explanation. The need to make natural events explicable when you don't understand what causes them leads to religion. So I find this argument certainly credible. I actually played with this idea in one of the Edge books. I think it was in book one.

Geez, you write a few Star Trek episodes, and you think you have the answers to everything...

Welcome Dr. Mike. I base my conclusions on reading in many scientific disciplines, a degree in History and a law degree, and not on any TV show, no matter how beloved. It's amazing what you can learn if you're open to information.
