Exciting News

Hi, All,

Now it can be announced.  Tor is going to reprint the first three Wild Card books.  (Hopefully this will just be the start, and people will finally get to read the Black Trump triad).  Anyway, this is great news, but even better news is that there will be new material in the first volume.

Carrie Vaughn, Michael Cassutt and David Levine will be providing new stories that will help fill in some of the history in book one.

I hope we get the same great artist for these reprints.

Stephen is bummed when publishers do this, as it means he has to rebuy a book that he already owns just to get the new stuff. However, we're of course looking forward to seeing the new stories. Great choices for new blood, too!

I understand how he feels. The problem is that the first three books keep getting reprinted, and we never manage to get those later books back into print. Since Book One has been reprinted so many times we really thought we ought to offer people some value other than just new cover art.

Later books

There's always the Baen strategy - do your new fancy hardbacks, have CD or other source for ebooks for the later books included - increase demand for them a bit. Otherwise, don't like your chances of getting to 15, perhaps, unless they are triples in monster books like The Hard SF Renaissance or The Dark Descent.

Speaking of lack of sales for later books - no electronic version of Busted Flush - but it has been out for many months?

The other reason presumably why people keep reprinting the first three, is because those are the best.

Reason to buy

While I'm not a fan of repurchasing books I already own, there's at least a decent justification in this case-- having the new stories will make the buying worthwhile, PLUS I'll have hardcover versions of the first three (which will be very nice as well).
