Who is Melinda Snodgrass anyway?

After eight years as a novelist which included the publication of her CIRCUIT trilogy, and co-creating, editing, and writing for the Wild Card series, Melinda began her career as a story editor on STAR TREK:TNG, and wrote the Writer's Guild Award nominated script THE MEASURE OF A MAN. She worked for REASONABLE DOUBTS, and PROFILER, wrote six pilots, and had one produced and aired, STAR COMMAND. She is currently working on the third book in the EDGE series, has delivered the first book in a new urban fantasy series, and is starting on the second.  She has two screenplays currently under consideration in Hollywood.

“If H.P. Lovecraft and H. L. Mencken had ever collaborated, they might have come up with something like The Edge of Reason . This one will delight thinkers--and outrage true believers--of all stripes.” --George R. R. Martin

Intolerance is the natural concomitant of strong faith; tolerance grows only when faith loses certainty; certainty is murderous.

Bright Star

Finally saw a movie again.  It's been a long dry spell, but I managed to catch Bright Star, the story of Keats unconsummated love affair with Fanny Brawne.  I've only seen one other Jane Campion movie -- The Piano, and I didn't much like it.  It was beautifully filmed, but I hated every character in the film.

This movie I liked a great deal.  The look of it was absolutely phenomenal, and it was touching and sad.  These two very young people who can never really be together, and this great talent that was cut short at age 25.

After the film I reflected back on 2009, and realized I had only really liked three films so far -- Up, Julie and Julia and now Bright Star.  The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 was okay, but not great, and they spoiled it with this shoot out action ending that wasn't needed.

I wonder if they're going to cram a lot of really good movies into this final two months, or if there are any great movies waiting in the wings?

I'm frustrated because I love a good action movie.  I just haven't seen one since Iron Man.  Or Blood Diamond which had a really intense core story, but some great action.

X-Box Addiction

I am officially a really, really big geek now.  I had bought an X-Box, and messed around a bit with Left for Dead, and got intimidated because I really sucked with the whole moving and looking and shooting thing.

Then Ian and I got sent a director's reel, and he had done the commercial for Halo 3.  It looked really cool, and it turned out when I bought the X-Box I got Halo 3.  I started playing it alone, then Ian and I finished a rewrite on the script, and celebrated by playing the game.

It rocks.  I got better and better.  Of course we were playing at the easy setting, and any 13 year old boy would kick my ass, but I was able to kill aliens, and we have actually stayed alive through three missions.

I've discovered a number of things.  I keep getting distracted with all the pretties in the game.  It's amazing.  At one point I fell in a river, and they had the bottom and sides of the river designed!

I love to shoot things.

I want more of the items I see to have a function and add to the story the way objects and books did in Myst.

And it's a lot more fun to play with a friend.  That may be the girl talking.

Oh, and the first time my controller started shaking in my hands, I yelled, and almost tossed it into the air.

I love these games.  Now I want to get Mass Effect.  I watched Ty and Daniel play that game and it looks really cool too.
