I can finally report on the big news I've been keeping under my hat since mid-July. SciFy Films, a new division of NBC/Universal has acquired Wild Cards as their first property. I will be writing the screenplay, and George and I will be Executive Producers on the project.
I acquired the option on Wild Cards nearly six year ago, and have written a spec script, various different pitch stories, and have made countless trips to L.A. in an attempt to set up this amazing project.
I finally met up with Gregory Noveck who is not only a Hollywood producer, but a huge science fiction fan. He read Wild Cards in high school, loved the books, and saw the potential. When he became head of SyFy Films he was determined to acquired the property.
I will be writing the screenplay and George and I will be executive producers.
This is terribly exciting, and I'm so thrilled to have this opportunity.

You have absolutely earned this, and you're going to write one hell of a screenplay. The WC consortium owes you a huge debt of gratitude.

Now It Can Be Told

I asked George this on his LJ, but since you mention it... is your original spec script the basis for what will be used now? And, speaking of spec scripts for _Wild Cards_... many moons ago I think I recall George saying that you and he had collaborated on a script (and also on a script for _A Princess of Mars_). I've never been clear on the timeline -- was he referring to your ~2006 script, or was there a script before that one? I'm guessing the latter...
I had no idea who Noveck was, but since you mentioned him, I checked IMDB... and, man, he must be a comic book fan, which is excellent. I love the fact that he's executive producer on the (excellent) _Justice League: New Frontier_ animated DVD. He had a tremendous foundation to work from, of course, with Darwyn Cooke's original graphic novel as a basis, but it came together really well according to all the reviews I've seen.
Fingers crossed that everything goes forward without a hitch!
