Good luck in LA, and don't let the bastards grind you down.

The ranch sounds like an amazing place ...

I lived on a section of land in Central Alberta for about a year. We had a pack of coyotes come around every three or four weeks during the winter and spend the night under the eaves at the back of the house; I awoke one morning to a herd of elk in the front yard - one was on the porch, his rump holding closed the screen door; my dog mistook a bull Moose crossing the lawn for a horse and wanted to play; and of course there were the tons of sightings of deer, porcupines, badgers, stray cows and horses. I'll never forget the place.

I love Canada though I've only see Victoria Island, Vancouver and Toronto. I've heard the Canadian Rockies are breathtaking. Someday I'll get there. We have lots of elk in New Mexico, but I've never seen a moose in the wild. Something else to hope to do before I die.

Vancouver Island is definitely beautiful ... My family has settled there and I spent the larger half of ten years in Campbell River, the north end of the island. I didn't realize it at the time, but one of the strangest things there was size of the wildlife. We had regular cougars and black bears - there was even the rumor of a couple of wolves on the northern tip - but the deer were tiny. A full grown male deer was only slightly larger than a big dog. Nothing at all like the horse sized white-tailed and mule deer of the mainland.
